 East Surrey Council elections
Candidates standing for election in your area will be campaigning to explain why they think they should be elected. They may choose to contact you in a number of ways including by post, phone or by visiting your home.
Why is it important to vote?
Councillors elected this May will initially work as part of a ‘shadow’ local authority to set up the new councils. They will:
- set budgets and Council Tax for 2027/28
- agree staffing structures and governance arrangements
- adopt codes of conduct and members’ allowance schemes
- prepare for the transfer of responsibilities from the existing councils
These councillors will represent your area for five years.
Use the postcode search on the Future Surrey website to find out who you can vote for.
 The Hurst Pool refurbishment update
The start of the refurbishment works at The Hurst Pool has been delayed due to contractor issues. The works due to begin in late April will no longer go ahead as planned.
A revised start date is currently being finalised. We will provide a further update once this has been confirmed, including any impact on access to the centre.
We remain committed to delivering the planned improvements and thank residents and customers for their patience. For operational queries about lessons or swimming schedules, please contact the Places Leisure Team on 020 8941 6544.
Stay water aware this spring and summer
Each year, the ‘Be Water Aware campaign’ reminds us of the dangers of open water and shares important safety advice as the weather gets warmer and more people get outdoors. This year, it is running from Monday 27 April to Sunday 3 May.
Building a connected community to help more people in Elmbridge live well
On 16 April, Elmbridge Cabinet agreed a proposal to strengthen the way Elmbridge Borough Council and Walton Charity work together to support local communities.
Cabinet Councillors agreed to a Community Asset Transfer of the Walton Centre for the Community, Manor Road, Walton-on-Thames and Cobham Centre for the Community, Oakdene Road, Cobham.
This means transferring ownership of the buildings to Walton Charity, allowing the charity to invest directly in improvements and develop them as welcoming, thriving community hubs.
