 Clean Air Night
As we mark Clean Air Night on Thursday 22 January, let’s take a moment to think about how our everyday choices affect the air we breathe indoors and in our communities.

Local CIL funding round opens soon
The annual local Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding will be opening on Monday 2 February and applications can be submitted until midnight on Sunday 15 March 2026.
CIL allows Elmbridge Borough Council to collect money from new developments to help pay for the infrastructure needed to support growth. Each year, a portion of this funding is allocated to small local projects in the communities where the development took place.
Before applying, you can check the available funding for each area. The total amount of funding for each area is determined by the level of development in that area.
Funding available for trees affected by OPM on private land
In recent years, Oak Processionary Moth (OPM) activity has increased across parts of Elmbridge. OPM caterpillars can damage oak trees and their tiny hairs may cause mild irritation to people and animals.
We’re pleased to share that the Forestry Commission has introduced a grant to support the cost of spraying oak trees on private land to manage OPM infestation.
This funding is available to local authorities and to residents with 4 or fewer oak trees located within the OPM Established Area.
Deadline to apply for funding is 30 January 2026.
Surrey councils make progress with local government reorganisation transition
Last year, central government decided Surrey’s county and district and borough councils should reorganise into two new unitary authorities – West Surrey Council and East Surrey Council.
A key milestone has now been reached, with some local councillors meeting for the first time as voluntary joint committees, to begin shaping the transition.
- East Surrey Voluntary Joint Committee met on 15 January in Reigate
- West Surrey Voluntary Joint Committee met on 16 January in Woking
Both committees will meet monthly across their areas until the new shadow authorities are established after the May 2026 elections.
Elmbridge Borough Council will join East Surrey Council.
