 Chatley Heath Semaphore Tower: a historic journey
Join historian Caroline Stanford on Wednesday 12 November at 7:30pm at Riverhouse Barn Arts Centre, Walton-on-Thames for the last lecture in the Royston Pike autumn series.
Learn about the Chatley Heath Semaphore Tower, a unique landmark in Britain’s communication history. Hear stories of its 1822 construction, its role in signalling and its recent restoration.
Tickets are £4 and can be booked through the Riverhouse Barn Arts website.
 Flood alleviation and biodiversity works at Brooklands community park in Weybridge
Works started last week at Brooklands community park to desilt the flood alleviation pond and enhance local biodiversity.Over time, the pond has gradually evolved into a willow carr, a wet woodland environment, shifting away from its original function as a pond.
The current works will include:
- scraping silt from the pond to restore its primary function as a reservoir
- clearing excess vegetation from the nearby double ditch

 Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month: free community event
The University of Surrey invites the public to a free event on 5 November exploring pancreatic cancer and the importance of early detection.
Led by PhD researcher Hugh Claridge in partnership with Pancreatic Cancer Action, the session will feature expert insights, personal stories and a live demonstration of a new digital tool designed to help GPs identify the disease earlier.

 Elmbridge community noticeboards in Walton need you!
Did you know Elmbridge has 29 community noticeboards which charities and community groups can use to promote their events and services? Each of these boards is managed by a local volunteer and we are currently in need of new recruits for our noticeboards in Cottimore Crescent and Terrace Road in Walton.
