 UK-wide Emergency Alert system test
The government will be conducting a test of the UK-wide Emergency Alert system on Sunday 7 September 2025 at 3pm.
The alert will be sent to all compatible 4G and 5G mobile phones.
Each compatible mobile/tablet will vibrate, make a loud siren-like noise and a message will be sent saying no further action needs to take place.
- the alert is only a test – it is not related to any real emergency
- the alert will not collect any personal data or track location
- you can opt out: alerts can be disabled in phone settings, though it is recommended to keep them on for real emergencies
If you’re a survivor of domestic abuse and use a hidden or emergency phone, please be aware that a loud siren will sound on ALL phones, even on silent.
To stay safe:
- switch off or use airplane mode on hidden devices
- share this message with anyone at risk
For help and support you can phone the Surrey Domestic Abuse Helpline provided by Your Sanctuary: 01483 776822 (9am to 9pm, 7 days a week)
Annual canvass 2025 in Elmbridge: Don't lose your voice
In July we launched our 2025 annual canvass. Running until December, the canvass ensures the electoral register - the official list of people who can vote in elections and referendums - is accurate and up to date.
There are a few ways for you to respond to the annual canvass. You will receive either an email or a letter asking you to confirm or update the details of those living at your address. The easiest way to respond is online, using the two-part security code provided in the email. More information on how to respond is on our website.
 M25 gyratory update
All traffic management on the M25 between junctions 9 and 11 have been removed, and the speed restrictions lifted. The new gyratory is now fully opened, bringing into full use the new free flow left turn lanes.
This means:
- drivers will no longer have to slow down to 50mph for 3½ miles (5½km) passing through the works area
- new, clearer overhead road signs will help people get in the right lane at the right speed
- longer and wider slip roads with more capacity will make accessing the A3 easier and reduce queues
Work on the scheme is still ongoing and at times the gyratory will remain under speed restrictions to facilitate the ongoing work on the A3.
