 Prioritising water safety in Elmbridge
This week, we have seen #WorldDrowningPreventionDay make an impact and raise awareness about the dangers of open water.
You can watch our new video on water safety, where we hear from Kevin Naylor, bereaved father of Dominick Naylor, who sadly drowned in the river in Walton-on-Thames in 2016.
Don't forget to vote in the Love Elmbridge Awards
This July, we are supporting our high streets and championing our vision for a thriving Elmbridge.
Is there a spot on your local high street that you are always re-visiting? The ideal place for brunch on the weekend with friends, the café that provides the best coffee in the borough or the salon that always offers a warm welcome?
Don't forget to show your support for them before voting ends on 31 July!
Competition launches: Elmbridge through a camera lens
We have a Vision for a sustainable and thriving Elmbridge, driven by the power of our community, and this summer we are launching a photographic competition to help bring that Vision to life.
Your photos need to represent at least one of the above and must have been taken in Elmbridge. You may wish to read more on the 2030 Vision to inspire your creativity.
The winner of each category will be selected by the Mayor of Elmbridge, Councillor Richard Williams, and the winning photos will be printed and displayed in the Civic Centre in Esher. It's great to see him getting in the spirit already with our official Vision Photo Competition frame!
Urgent appeal: Can the Elmbridge community help local children through the cost of living crisis?
Almost 4,000 children in Elmbridge live in poverty. Low wages and increasing living costs mean many families are struggling to put food on the table.
However, you can donate to the Emergency Cost of Living Appeal today to help a local child in need.
If you donate now, we will triple your donation.
For every £1 you donate, both Walton Charity and Elmbridge Borough Council will match it £1 for £1. With Gift Aid, a £10 donation will be worth £32.50.
Walton Charity and Elmbridge Borough Council have each pledged to match donations up to £30,000.
 Keep Elmbridge Tidy
We are a community proud of our towns, villages, and green spaces. We embrace being outdoors whether it’s exploring the commons, cycling around the borough, walking along the river, shopping on our high streets, or playing with our family in the borough’s many parks and green spaces. However, none of us are happy when we see litter, fly tips or dog fouling!
From June 2023 we are adopting a multi-faceted approach – a Keep Elmbridge Tidy communications campaign, encouraging our litter picking groups, new bins in our towns and high streets and more visible enforcement.
A pathway to a sustainable and thriving Elmbridge
The draft Local Plan has been approved by Elmbridge Borough Council at a meeting on 19 July.
Council Leader, Councillor Bruce McDonald, regards the Plan as a pathway to creating a sustainable and thriving borough, making Elmbridge a place people want to live, work and visit.
Your small steps can make massive changes this Plastic Free July
There is no doubt that the contribution of plastic waste causes harm for the environment, and as single-use plastic consumers, we are all accountable. That’s why we are supporting Plastic Free July this month, and we’re hoping we can encourage the residents of Elmbridge to make small steps towards potentially huge changes.
