A pathway to a sustainable and thriving Elmbridge
A Local Plan is an important strategy document. For Elmbridge, it is the implementation tool supporting our 2030 Vision for a sustainable and thriving borough.
If recommended by Cabinet, the draft Local Plan will be taken to the Elmbridge Council meeting on 19 July 2023. If approved by Council, the next stage is to submit our Plan to the Secretary of State who will appoint an Inspector to carry out an independent examination. This process is dealt with by the Planning Inspectorate.
Esher: The civic heart of Elmbridge
At the Elmbridge Cabinet meeting on 5 July, a report on the results of the consultation and an updated Esher vision will be presented for adoption.
As part of the Esher vision consultation, we suggested that Esher had the potential to be the civic heart of Elmbridge, a vibrant, diverse town centre, providing residents and visitors with the opportunity to socialise, to come together and take part in shared, fun activities and you responded positively to that vision.
A winning formula for a thriving community
Following the successful Business Improvement District (BID) ballot result in Cobham earlier this year, Elmbridge Cabinet is being asked to further support Cobham with upfront funding (to be paid back over two years through BID levy payments) and to support the exploratory steps from Weybridge and Esher for future potential BIDs.
Water Safety Day in Walton-on-Thames
On Saturday 22 July from 10am to 4pm at Cowey Sale, there will be a Water Safety Day for the whole family. Come along and watch demonstrations, meet the rescue specialists and see the equipment used during water rescue training.
Our Keep Elmbridge Tidy campaign
We are a community proud of our towns, villages, and green spaces. We embrace being outdoors whether it’s exploring the commons, cycling, walking along the river, or playing with our family in the borough’s many parks and green spaces. However, none of us are happy when we see litter, fly tips or dog fouling.
Our Keep Elmbridge Tidy communications campaign, launched in June 2023, encourages our litter picking groups, has provided new bins in our towns and high streets and more visible enforcement around our parks, green spaces, towns and villages.
Play the Elmbridge Community Lottery

Junior Citizen 2023: Empowering the next generation
Hosted by Elmbridge Borough Council, over 1,300 Year 6 students, from 20 different schools across Elmbridge, attended life skill sessions which focussed on their wellbeing and becoming responsible young citizens.
Students learned important and valuable skills such as railway safety, water safety, first aid, health, combating anti-social behaviour and awareness around drugs and alcohol.
Leading on climate change and a sustainable Elmbridge
Since Elmbridge declared a climate emergency in 2019, climate change and sustainability have been fundamental to our work.
On 5 July, Elmbridge Cabinet will consider the work being done by the council to tackle climate change and improve sustainability in Elmbridge and to protect our environment. Our climate change and sustainability work spans cleaner air and energy, carbon reduction in business and biodiversity and covers policy, funding, and action, in addition to communicating and engaging with the Elmbridge community.
