A vital lifeline to those in need
A team of officers from across Elmbridge Borough Council have been contacting the ‘shielded’ group of people within the borough. These are the people identified by the Government and the NHS as being particularly vulnerable to COVID-19.
Officers have phoned those people identified, discussed their wellbeing, asked if they need any food or medical supplies and have offered a listening ear. This is a vital service to our shielded residents at this time and we thank the team for their dedication.
Our work to support the vulnerable in the borough doesn’t stop there and you can find out more about the meals-on-wheels we deliver, plus other services on the COVID-19 information and advice pages on our website.

Bin collections: help us to keep the service running smoothly
We are all grateful to the waste crews working to keep emptying our bins each week. They are doing all they can to keep waste and recycling services as normal during this situation but there are some ways you can help the service:
- Due to reduced traffic, your usual collections time may change. Please put your bins out early and leave them out until they’ve been emptied.
- Be considerate when parking your car on a collection day, this will help to ensure the collection vehicles can access your road.
- Make sure your bin lids are firmly closed to help prevent crews unnecessarily touching them.
- Wash your hands before and after touching your bin.
- Compact your recycling by flattening and folding cardboard and washing and squeezing plastic to fit as much as possible into your bins. Only put bins out when they are full. Cardboard that can’t fit into your recycling bin will be collected if it’s folded and tied and left next to the bin.
- Bin crews are working hard to keep this essential service going during this difficult time. If you see them, please let them know you appreciate what they’re doing and give them a wave or a smile!
