Free events this week through Heritage Open Days
Every September, volunteers across the country organise events to celebrate our fantastic history and culture. It's your chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences – all of which are free to explore.

Drop-in to a free family workshop exploring the colours, stories, and landscapes of the Blackdowns
 Join local artist and ceramicist Sarah John for a free (suggested donation £2), relaxed, hands-on session between 10.30am to 1.30pm on Saturday 12 September 2026. All ages and abilities are welcome.
Working together, using natural pigments, including locally sourced clay, a collaborative artwork will be created. This workshop is a part of the Blackdown Hills Heritage Festival.

Inaugural Gate to Plate festival comes to Cranbrook
Eat:Festivals will be bringing their free Gate to Plate festival to Tillhouse Road in Cranbrook on Sunday 13 September 2026 between 10am - 4pm.
The festivals aim to bring a great range of producers and products into the town, mostly based within 30 miles.

New Growth Board launched for Marlcombe

The new board will play a key role in making sure Marlcombe is planned as an infrastructure-first community, with transport links, schools, healthcare, and green space, alongside other essential services, from the outset.

East Devon District Council responds to Government review of Local Government Reorganisation
Closure of part of Sidmouth Esplanade whilst hole is investigated
A section at the end of Sidmouth Esplanade, by the turning circle, is currently closed. Council engineers are investigating a hole that has appeared, with a void underneath. Thank you for your patience whilst this safety work is completed.

Do you have any old, worn out, small electrical items that are beyond repair?
If you do, and can fit them inside your recycling box, East Devon's Recycling Team can collect them from the kerbside. Small electrical items include most products that have a plug or need a battery. The valuable components within the electrical items are stripped out and recycled.
