Cranbrook celebrates refurbished St Martin’s Play Area
 Cranbrook families recently celebrated the opening of the upgraded St Martin’s Play Area. As part of the celebrations, eight-year-old Aurora was crowned the winner of the 'name the tractor' competition. Her winning entry, Marty the Maize Machine, was officially unveiled on a commemorative plaque installed on the tractor.

Visitor donations boost birdwatching at Seaton Wetlands
 Thanks to Rodney Gayor, a regular at the Wetlands for more than 15 years, whose donations, alongside support from the Axe Vale & District Conservation Society, helped fund these upgrades
The Island Hide on Blackhole Marsh and the Tower Hide beside the River Axe have benefited from much-needed window upgrades. These improvements will significantly enhance the visitor experience, as well as extend the life span of the hides themselves.

Learn Devon has a new programme of around 200 opportunities to help people develop skills for work and progress in their careers.
This includes courses in English, Maths, Digital Skills, English for Speakers of Other Languages, and Skills and Development.These are designed to meet local workforce needs and support progression into jobs, further training or career change.

Join a free community screening to learn about the climate and nature crises and what can be done
The 50-minute 'National Emergency Briefing' film helps viewers understand the causes and impacts of climate change without being overwhelming or technical. It strikes a hopeful tone, highlighting practical solutions, and innovation. It aims to leave viewers feeling empowered, and optimistic about what can be achieved.
A screening is scheduled at The Beehive in Honiton on Monday 24 August 2026 at 6pm.

Help prevent fires, by recycling batteries correctly
 Used batteries should be placed in a clear bag and presented with your recycling for kerbside collection.
When batteries are recycled correctly, valuable materials can be recovered and reused. More importantly, keeping batteries separate from other waste, helps reduce the risk of fires in collection vehicles and recycling facilities.
Don't place batteries inside cardboard, or wrap them in paper, as they can be missed and mixed with paper and card recycling.
Three simple ways to help:
- remove batteries from electrical items before recycling
- never put batteries or electrical items in your refuse wheeled bin
- share the message with friends and family
