Have your say on the future of Local Government in Devon
Click on the play button to hear from East Devon District Council's Deputy Leader about why you should take part in the consultation
A consultation on the future of local government in Devon has been opened by the Department for Housing, Communities and Local Government.
This is the latest step in the process for reorganising local authorities following UK Government’s decision to simplify local services in England.
All authorities in the County had the opportunity to respond and there are now five proposals on the table for the county;
-
"Reimagining Devon" - three unitary authorities proposed by South Hams, Teignbridge, and West Devon.
-
"Reimagining Devon" - three unitary authorities, with a request to modify the boundaries of Plymouth, proposed by East Devon, Mid Devon, North Devon, and Torridge.
-
"The Case for Devon" - three unitary authorities, including a single large unitary council for Devon, alongside the existing Plymouth and Torbay unitary councils, proposed by Devon County Council
-
"Proposal for Local Government Reorganisation in Devon" suggests expanded boundaries for the Plymouth and Torbay unitaries, a new unitary council for Exeter and the surrounding area, plus a rural and coastal unitary covering the remaining area, proposed by Plymouth & Exeter City Councils.
-
"Proposal for Local Government Reorganisation in Devon" which is similar to the Plymouth & Exeter proposal, but suggests that Torbay would maintain its current boundaries, proposed by Torbay Council.
Government is now consulting on these options to inform their plans for the new authority, which will be announced in summer 2026.
Community Governance Review Stage 2: Cranbrook and Surrounding Development Areas consultation
Following the first stage of the Community Governance Review, East Devon District Council has published draft recommendations on proposed boundary changes affecting Cranbrook Town Council and the neighbouring parishes of Broadclyst, Clyst Honiton, Rockbeare and Whimple.
We now want to hear from people who live in the areas affected, as well as anyone else with an interest, on these proposals. Your feedback will help ensure the draft recommendations reflect local communities and support fair and effective representation.
Consultation closes at 5pm on 24 April 2026.
Ottery St Mary Town Council Section 106 funding survey

Ottery St Mary Town Council want to hear your views on which shortlisted projects you support the Section 106 funding going to, and which are the highest priority for the community. Have your say by reviewing the shortlist and telling us your top priorities before a final decision is made.
Survey closes on the 27 March 2026 at 5pm.
South East Devon Wildlife Visitor Survey
Have you recently visited the Pebblebed Heaths National Nature Reserve, Exe Estuary, Dawlish Warren, Dawlish Countryside Park, or Ridgetop Park? South East Devon Wildlife, which helps to protect these spaces, wants to hear about your experience!
Whether you’re a regular dog walker, cyclist, or first-time visitor, your input will help us protect and enhance these cherished landscapes for future generations.
Complete the survey and share how you use and enjoy these spaces. Your feedback will inform decisions to improve access, protect wildlife, and elevate visitor experiences.
The survey is a year round project.

Tithebarn new play area survey report
The developer will review the feedback received and take it into account when confirming the final proposals. They will consider the community’s expressed preferences and the options that attracted the highest levels of support through the survey. To reflect the survey findings, the developer has been advised to proceed with the option that incorporates all the most popular items identified by respondents. This approach best aligns the proposed scheme with community priorities and provides a clear response to the key themes emerging from the survey
Draft Pavement Licensing Policy approved
The draft pavement licensing policy was formally presented at the Licensing and Enforcement Committee on the 11 of February.
It was noted that numerous responses had cited a need for an earlier start time than the 10:00am start which had been proposed. Officers proposed that consideration be given to amending the general opening hours start time to 9:00am following the feedback received.
Following consideration by the Licensing & Enforcement Committee of the public consultation feedback the draft pavement licensing policy was approved by the committee with an amended start time for general opening hours in the policy of 9:00am.
Cranbrook Leisure and Wellbeing Survey closed
The survey has now closed and the results are being collated. Once collated, we will analyse the feedback to understand what respondents told us. A full survey summary report will then be produced, presenting the survey results and outlining the next steps.
