Annual cliff inspections scheduled at Beer, Budleigh Salterton, Seaton, and Sidmouth
Work to remove loose material from East Devon cliffs, and to complete any additional safety work that is needed, is scheduled to take place over the next couple of weeks. Some footpaths will be temporarily closed or narrowed while work is underway. Please take care around cliff edges at all times, following signs and diversion routes.
East Cliffs, Budleigh Salterton - Monday 23 - Tuesday 24 February 2026
Paths will be partially closed with reduced footpath width between Rockfish and Fifty Degrees North.
West Walk, Seaton - Tuesday 24 - Friday 27 February 2026
The West Walk footpath will be fully closed between The Hideaway Café and the public toilets.
East Cliffs, Beer - Thursday 26 - Friday 27 February 2026 and Monday 2 - Tuesday 3 March 2026
Paths will be partially closed including sections above the beach huts at East Cliffs.
Connaught Gardens Cliffs, Sidmouth – Tuesday 3 - Wednesday 4 March 2026
The footpath will be fully closed between Jacob’s Ladder and the Millennium Walkway.
Dinan Way scheme progressing, but slowed by wet weather
Devon County Council's work on the Dinan Way extension in Exmouth is being hampered by the ongoing heavy rain, but progress is continuing to be made. Overnight closures will be in place until Tuesday 24 February 2026 on the A376 between the Summer Lane junction and Pitts Farm junction to carry out highway drainage improvements.
The scheme is being funded by UK Government, Devon County Council, East Devon District Council, and Exmouth Town Council.

Department rolls up sleeves for nature recovery
Councillor Richard Jefferies, East Devon District Council's Portfolio Holder for Environment – Nature & Climate with colleagues from across the Countryside Environment & Ecology service
Despite wet and challenging conditions, 25 team members took part in a packed programme of habitat management activities. This included hedge-laying, coppicing, and controlled burning - contributing to the ongoing management and enhancement of this important local nature reserve.
