Amber cold-health alert in place this weekend

It has been a chilly start to 2026, with the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and the Met Office extending the amber cold-health alert until 12pm on Monday 12 January 2026.

Devon County Council is responsible for refilling grit bins and gritting key routes. For highways updates, follow their Devon Alert page on social media.

We recently marked 10 years since Cranbrook Station was opened. Usage of the station continues to grow, with increasing numbers of people taking the train between East Devon and stations from Exeter to London Waterloo.

Competition urges dog owners to ‘bag it and bin it’

Participants will be invited to take part in an online competition, testing their knowledge of responsible dog walking and pledging to always bag and bin their dog’s waste. A Dicky Bag, for carrying collected poo without any smells, will be awarded to a winner each month from January to March in 2026.

Do you need to re-apply for a postal vote?

Do you vote by post in England? You need to re-apply every 3 years. Envelope, calendar, and Electoral Commission logo

If you applied for a postal vote on or before 30 January 2024, you’ll need to re-apply by Saturday 31 January 2026. Otherwise, your postal vote will expire. If you have reapplied since July 2025, you do not need to take any further action.

Upgrades to play areas in Whimple include a large climbing frame with multiple activities, a double trampoline, swings, and a large spinning disc. The improvements are part of East Devon District Council’s £1.2 million district-wide investment.

Are decluttering and refreshing your wardrobe your new year's resolutions? Drop off clean, good-quality clothes, shoes or jewellery you no longer wear at Sea Dog Art Gallery and Bar from 5.30pm on Tuesday 27 January 2026. You can then swap them for something “new to you” for free between 6pm - 7.30pm. If you can't make it this time, come along to a future event, scheduled for the last Tuesday of each month.

16-19-year-olds in Exmouth: apply for free documentary filmmaking course

Participants on the four-week-long documentary filmmaking course will embark on a whistle-stop tour from preparation to projection. They will learn how to find and develop a story, how to capture it, how to shape the edit, and how to bring it to an audience.
