East Devon councillors back submission for reimagined local government in Devon
East Devon has worked with Mid Devon, North Devon, South Hams, Teignbridge, Torridge, and West Devon district councils to develop Reimagining Devon: Believe in Better in response to the UK Government’s plan to simplify the structure of local services in England.
The proposal, along with the other submissions for Devon, will be the subject of a government-led public consultation in early 2026.
Concerns and commitment to partnership - Harbour Revision Order proposals
“We are concerned for our residents about proposals within [Exeter City Council's] draft Order that could allow new or higher charges for using the estuary, Exmouth seafront, or the beach. Understandably, this has caused unease locally, and any changes must safeguard wildlife, public access, and livelihoods.”

A new initiative has been designed to mobilise community volunteers to identify land suitable for tree planting across the district. This community-driven support is essential in helping the council achieve its ambitious target of reaching 30% canopy cover by 2035.
