Scam alert: texts claiming to be from the DWP
Scammers pretending to be from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) are contacting people around the UK about applying for the Winter Fuel Payment and Household Support Fund.
Stay safe, vigilant, and keep an eye out for tell-tale signs of scams. These include weird phone numbers, generic greetings, urgent threats, bad spelling/grammar, requests for personal info, and suspicious links or attachments (don’t click on them).
If you’re ever in doubt about whether a message is real, please check with the organisation that you suspect is being impersonated, by contacting them through their official channels. You can report scams by using Action Fraud's online reporting tool, and by forwarding texts to your mobile network provider using the number 7726.
East Devon District Council’s Financial Resilience Team manage applications to the Household Support Fund. Visit the council’s webpages for more information and contact the council if you require any further assistance.
