£2 winter parking offer updated: you said, East Devon District Council delivered

Winter pricing until the end of March. Illustration of a car and snowflakes. eastdevon.gov.uk/parking

For £2 from Friday 1 November 2024 to Monday 31 March 2025, you can park for up to four hours in most short stay car parks or up until midnight in all other East Devon District Council (EDDC) car parks*.

Listening to feedback from residents about the winter offer in previous years, EDDC is introducing changes at some of the council’s busiest car parks. At short-stay car parks in Sidmouth, Exmouth and Honiton, a four-hour maximum stay for the £2 ticket will be introduced, and this ticket will not be transferable to other car parks. As a result of this change, it is expected that more drivers will be able to make use of the best spaces, closer to the town centres. There is no change to the winter offer at EDDC’s other car parks.

Read the news story on EDDC’s website for more details about the winter parking offer.

Skaters and BMXers at Exmouth’s Phear Park skatepark are delighted with four new flood lights which mean they can now enjoy the park late into the evening. Recently installed, the energy-efficient LED lights switch on automatically at dusk until 10pm. Two of the lights switch off 5 minutes early to give skaters time to pack up safely.

Exciting gym redevelopment launch at Exmouth Leisure Centre

Exmouth Leisure Centre’s gym is set to undergo an exciting transformation, with a full redevelopment launching on Saturday 16 November 2024. This project will bring members a refreshed, modernised space with a reimagined layout, plus the latest equipment to support every fitness journey.

To facilitate these improvements, the gym will be closed on Sunday 3 November, and Friday 15 November 2024. During this period, members will still have access to relocated equipment in the main sports hall, ensuring minimal disruption to regular workouts.

Visit LED Leisure's story for more details of the new equipment which will be added to the gym. For the latest updates, follow Exmouth Leisure Centre on Facebook and Instagram and enable notifications in the centre’s app.

Sign post on a beach: Stay away from cliffs. Danger of falling rocks. Beware unstable cliff

Coast path diverted following cliff fall at Peak Hill near Sidmouth

After a landslip on Friday 25 October 2024, a short diversion to the coast path has been put in place. The diversion is signposted and there is a map that shows the route change on the South West Coast Path website.

Cliff falls are a natural and unpredictable occurrence along the East Devon coast. This is because the rock from which the cliffs are formed is soft, and therefore prone to rock falls, and landslides, which can happen at any time. Please keep a safe distance from cliffs along the East Devon coastline. Read more about cliff safety.

Sales centre to be removed from Cranbrook

East Devon District Council has issued a statement, supported by the Town Council, explaining why an enforcement notice requires the removal of a sales centre from Cranbrook within three months.

Variety by the sea. Person holding a briefcase with 'sold out' on it

All three nights sell-out at Manor Pavilion Theatre's Variety By The Sea

Goronwy Thom, a local circus performer, told us:

"I first put on a show at the Manor Pavilion Theatre in December 2006, the year I moved to Sidmouth officially."

"Without this theatre, a lot of my shows would never have existed."

"It is rare to sell-out three nights so quickly, which shows the appetite for events in this theatre. I hope I can stage many more shows there for years to come."
