Refurbished tennis courts unveiled at Exmouth Tennis Centre

Councillor Nick Hookway opening LED's new Proflex tennis courts in Exmouth, with the LED team and mascot

Councillor Nick Hookway formally opening the refurbished courts on Friday, 17 November

The indoor tennis courts at Exmouth Tennis & Fitness centre have been upgraded from carpet to Proflex, with funding from East Devon District Council

The cushioned acrylic Proflex surface creates the ideal tennis court which is extremely durable and resistant to wear, making it last for years. Proflex has a cushioning effect which isn’t affected by wear or seasonal temperatures. The cushioning mat, which forms part of the flooring, comes with a uniform thickness, so wherever the ball bounces on the court, it will be a true bounce and is gentler on the knees allowing for more play!

Councillor Nick Hookway, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Leisure, Sport and Tourism, said:

"I was delighted to open the Tennis Courts at the Exmouth Tennis Centre which have now been fitted with a much improved playing surface. I hope that this investment, which forms part of East Devon District Council's Leisure Strategy, will see more people enjoying the benefits of playing Tennis not only for the sheer enjoyment of the game but also to improve their overall performance and fitness".

Councillors Todd Olive, Paula Fernley and Geoff Jung on their visit to the ERF

East Devon District Councillors Todd Olive, Paula Fernley and Geoff Jung were given a tour of the Exeter Energy Recovery facility (ERF) on Tuesday, 21 November.

Councillor Todd Olive, Assistant Portfolio Holder for Coast, Country and Environment, said:

The behind the scenes trip was organised by Devon County Council as part of the Devon Authorities Strategic Waste Committee, "it was a great opportunity to see what happens to our waste once it leaves the kerbside - and in particular the hard work put in 'behind the scenes' to sort what we put in our recycling boxes, ensuring it goes to the right place to help us minimise our resource use."

Councillor Paula Fernley, Assistant Portfolio Holder for Coast, Country and Environment, added: ''waste education officers, from Devon County Council, are always keen to have school groups round to learn about recycling and waste''

Do you know how to recycle textiles?

Pile of Clothes. EDDC Logo. Salvation Army Logo.

Do you know how to recycle your textiles?

Good quality textiles and shoes, bagged and placed securely in your kerbside green recycling box, will go to The Salvation Army for reuse or sale, which supports people in need.

Our scheme is a textile reuse scheme, rather than a recycling scheme, therefore as your textiles will be reused, it is important to keep them clean and dry.

We are unable to collect duvets, pillows and cushions, please place those items in your wheeled grey refuse bin or take them to the recycling centre.

For those of you wondering if your textiles or shoes are of good quality for collection, we suggest, that if you ask yourself, ‘Would I buy this from a charity shop?’ If the answer is Yes, then please place them out for collection, if No, then please place in your wheeled grey refuse bin, which will then go to the Energy from Waste Facility in Exeter.

During times of wet weather, you may wish to hang on to your textiles and put them out for collection in a drier period to ensure they don’t get wet and are reusable.
