Hello,
This week Storm Ciarán reached East Devon, bringing large waves, strong winds and heavy rain. The council acted to protect Exmouth's seawall, and now that the storm has passed, StreetScene teams' clean-up operations across the district are underway. Due to extensive storm damage, Seaton's West Walk toilets will be closed until repairs have been carried out.
If you have been affected by flooding, please visit the council's advice webpages.

Council acts to protect Exmouth's seawall

Following the appearance of cracks in Exmouth's seawall in front of Sideshore, the council installed a temporary barrier of compacted sand, wrapped in geotextile, and held down with concrete blocks, ahead of Storm Ciarán.
This successfully protected the seawall from the extreme weather. Plans for longer-term solutions are now being assessed.
 Recycling and waste catch-up collections
Collections that were suspended on Thursday, 2 November due to Storm Ciarán were rearranged to Friday, 3 and Saturday, 4 November, where possible.

Chardstock Eco Group raise awareness of the Kit Brook's water quality
Children at Chardstock Primary School were taught all about river health, water quality monitoring and invertebrates
Last year, East Devon District Council awarded over 30 Small Community Grants, including a £500 grant to Chardstock Eco Group in March 2022.
They used the funding for their river restoration project, purchasing a variety of equipment that was put to good use during a practical lesson with school children, and getting residents together to discuss how they can get involved.
