Help design Cranbrook’s new town centre and you could win £50!
Councillor Paul Arnott, Leader of East Devon District Council, and Chair of the Exeter and East Devon Enterprise Zone, said:
“This is an important opportunity for you to help shape the future of Cranbrook. Your ideas really matter. We want to hear from as many people as possible – especially young people and those who don’t normally get involved.
“Legal agreements are being put in place which mean developers will contribute millions of pounds towards facilities and spaces in the town centre, like a library and leisure centre.
“We want your ideas to help decide what else should be included, what should be built first and where it should be built. Your views and ideas will then be used by EDDC and its partners to create a long-term town centre masterplan in summer 2024.”

East Devon community groups benefit from decarbonisation grants
Funding will be used for projects such as loft insultation, solar panels, double glazing, and improving buildings' accessibility
East Devon District Council has awarded 23 grants to community organisations and local tourism businesses as part of the district’s Culture, Leisure, and Tourism Fund.
In total, the council has awarded more than £181,000 through the scheme this summer, which is estimated to save 70 tonnes of carbon per year.
🚨Scam alert: housing repairs calls
Be wary about sharing personal and payment details, over the phone and online
We've received reports of a scam caller pretending to be from East Devon District Council’s (EDDC) Housing Repairs team.
Please note that our website is the place for EDDC’s tenants to report any repairs that are needed.

Do you have an item that needs to be fixed?
Exmouth Repair Cafe is open from 10am -1pm on the first Saturday of the month, from January to November
Saturday, 21 October is International Repair Day, and we're taking this opportunity to celebrate the fantastic work of Exmouth Repair Café's talented volunteers, who bring everyday items back to life, and lovingly restore treasured possessions.
The team have a wealth of experience, including a retired electrical and nuclear engineer who worked in submarines, an engineer who worked with high performance visualisation supercomputers, and a research scientist/engineer.
Electrical items are the most commonly repaired by the team, followed by clothing and textiles. The jewellery repairer also re-strings necklaces and bracelets and can help with watch straps. Not everything can be repaired, but visitors are satisfied that their item has been examined, and they don’t feel as guilty about disposing of it.
As well as repairs, the café provides company, conversation, cake and coffee, plus tunes at the piano, which sometimes prompt a sing-along. The space is shared with Exmouth in Bloom, who provide an excellent choice of plants for sale, along with homemade preserves and more. Next door you can also find the Exmouth Library of Things, which was set up by one of the repair team members.

Line your food waste caddy with any bag
As we approach the winter season with Halloween, Bonfire Night and Christmas, we get more food waste than at any other time of the year.
The best thing to do with food is to eat and enjoy it, however, even the most diligent shoppers and best cooks will always have some unavoidable food waste.
To make recycling your food waste easier and cleaner, line your caddy with any plastic bag. Residents tell us that bread bags and the liners to cereal packets are their food caddy liner favourites.
Please make sure you use your blue food caddy to recycle your unavoidable food waste. It is a very valuable resource which, once collected, we use to generate green energy and produce bio-fertiliser for farms.

Don’t let your pumpkin go to waste
The session at Seaton Library will be taking place from 10am-12pm on 23 October
This Halloween, 30.4 million pumpkins will be bought for carving and, of these, a whopping 15.8 million pumpkins will go to waste, left uneaten. That’s £26.7 million worth of edible food!
Two specialist session leaders will lead pumpkin carving and cooking events for children aged 8+ along with an adult. These sessions are free but you'll need to pay a £5 booking deposit.
Participating libraries also host community fridges, where donated surplus food is available, free of charge, to avoid it going to waste.
