East Devon District Council Chair and Vice Chair elected
Councillor Eleanor Rylance and Councillor Sam Hawkins
At Wednesday's Annual Council meeting, Councillor Eleanor Rylance as Chair and Councillor Sam Hawkins as Vice Chair were elected unanimously.
Returning Council Leader appoints new Cabinet
Returning Leader, Councillor Paul Arnott, who has held the position for the past three years, told the annual Council meeting on Wednesday 24 May that the focus for the new administration will continue to be on the existing priorities of Homes, the Environment and East Devon’s Economy, with an emphasis on sustainability.

East Devon beaches awarded Blue Flag status and Seaside Award
East Devon Councillors and staff hold Blue flags at Seaton, Sidmouth, and Exmouth, and a Seaside Award flag at Budleigh Salterton
Seaton, Beer, Exmouth and Sidmouth have all been awarded the Blue Flag accolade and are among 78 locations given the award recognising outstanding beaches in England.
Exmouth has achieved Blue Flag status for five years in a row, while this is the fourth year for Sidmouth. Seaton has been recognised again, after being awarded the Blue Flag for the first time last year.
Energy efficiency upgrades available for low-income households without mains gas
Lower-income householders across Devon whose homes are not on the gas grid are invited to apply for free energy efficiency improvements to their homes.
Eligible homeowners will be supported throughout the works and can help decide what improvements are made. All those supported through the scheme will receive a whole house energy improvement plan which can be used to carry out further, self-funded measures in the future.
StreetScene experiencing high level of demand
StreetScene are currently dealing with a high level of service demand due to staff shortages in key areas, flood recovery work, and conditions that cause grass to grow quickly. Please bear with us while we catch-up and get back on schedule.

Honiton LED leisure centre employees' double challenge in memory of best friend

In 2021, Adam Bounds passed away suddenly, aged just 41. Matt Payne alongside, Rob, Edder, Dan, Alan and Andrew are raising money for the RNLI in Adam's memory.
This is the second year that Matt, Rob, Edder, Alan and Dan have taken on the 132-mile cycle from Lyme Regis lifeboat station to the Newquay RNLI station. Another challenge this year, taking place on June 23, will be a walk the entire length of the East Devon Way, a 42-mile route from Exmouth lifeboat station to Lyme Regis' lifeboat station.
Save water by claiming a free water butt
South West Water are giving away free water butts to reduce the amount of water that residents use. Last year was the driest in 136 years, with reservoirs at Colliford and Roadford entering this spring at drought levels. Water butts are easy to install and great at capturing rainwater to use in the garden. A hosepipe can use up to 1000 litres an hour, so using a watering can is recommended.
