Local elections update


East Devon enters pre-election period 

Today East Devon District Council (EDDC) has entered its pre-election period.

On Thursday, 4 May elections will be held for EDDC and all town and parish councils in the district.

During this time, before the elections, the council's communications, news releases and social media channels are subject to impartiality restrictions. These rules are in place to avoid the debate being influenced or any candidate or political party being placed at an unfair advantage.

Make sure you've registered to vote

To choose your representative in the local elections, you'll need to  register to vote before the deadline of 11:59pm on Monday 17 April.

If you vote in person, you will now need voter ID to vote

In all future elections in the UK (the one in May being the first one), you'll need to show a valid form of ID if you're voting in person.  Accepted forms of ID include:

  • Passport
  • Driving licence
  • Citizen/proof of age card
  • Concessionary travel pass
  • Blue badge parking permit

If you have a form photo ID that has expired, but still looks like you, you can still use this.

If you don't have a valid form of ID you can either apply for a free voter authority certificate or get a free Citizen Card using the code FREEVOTERID.

If you'd rather not vote in person on polling day, you can vote by post. Get your postal vote in time for the local elections, by applying before 5pm on Tuesday 18 April.
