Discussions on Local Plan sites to wait while Government clarifies flexibility of housing targets
Construction of housing developments underway in East Devon
Changes to planning, being consulted on by the Government, could give the council greater flexibility about the amount of house building needed in East Devon.
Concerns about the impacts the new developments would have on the environment and infrastructure such as roads, schools and hospitals were raised in the ten-week East Devon Local Plan consultation. These issues were acknowledged in this week’s Strategic Planning Committee. The Government may give councils more choice over the number of new homes being built, allowing East Devon District Council (EDDC) to address local concerns that have been raised.
A motion proposed by EDDC Council Leader, Councillor Paul Arnott, that no further discussions or decisions on potential sites take place until the Government makes its decision, won cross-party support.
What do you think about street stalls trading in your town?

What are your views on street stalls selling seasonal craft items in your town?
East Devon District Council (EDDC) wants to hear your thought on the newly proposed draft street trading policy before the consultation deadline on Sunday, 26 February.
Street trader stalls can include outdoor events and markets, street stalls, festivals and food vans at the roadside and in car parks. Or, anything where someone is selling goods on the streets, or outside in pedestrian areas or open spaces.

5 days for £5 pass at LED Community Leisure
There's more classes available to teens aged 14 years and above at LED Community Leisure
LED Community Leisure are all about bringing fantastic leisure facilities to everyone in our community, no matter your age or ability. That’s why we have made even more classes available to teens aged 14 years and above from February 2023.
Group exercise classes can be a great way to get started in health and fitness with the support and care of a qualified group exercise instructor leading the session. You could think of it as a sort of adult P.E. lesson, only more fun, engaging and usually without a ball!
We understand anyone’s first class might feel daunting, so we are offering parents across LED the opportunity to bring their teen along to trial a group exercise class with a 5 days for £5 pass.
This pass will give your teen access to that class for cheaper than our usual pay-as-you-go rate and could also include a swim, a game of squash or badminton or a Get Active Gym session (providing they’ve had their induction) in the following four days too!
All LED group exercise classes require booking ahead of time, so be sure to book your space via the LED Leisure app or by calling your local LED Leisure Centre ahead of time. Get your pass here:

 Recycling news
Dangerous items in recycling sacks risk explosions
The gas canisters in the image were put out for recycling, but fortunately were spotted by our vigilant depot team
Please note that fuel cans, such as those in the photo above, present an explosion and fire risk in our vehicles and separation and baling plant.
Whilst we encourage the recycling of household aerosols, fuel cans of any size need to be taken to a household recycling centre for safe handling and recycling/disposal. Please do not put fuel cans in your waste bin, as they present an explosion risk at the Energy from Waste plant and can lead to a plant shutdown.
Thank you for helping to protect our team and our plant.
