Two taxi incidents in Exmouth prompt council warning

Two women were left shaken after unsettling taxi journeys in two separate incidents in East Devon, prompting council warnings.
East Devon District Council’s (EDDC) licensing department has received two reports in the past month from people using taxis taken from a rank on the Strand, in Exmouth.
The first passenger reported an incident, in December, where she said she was subject to inappropriate conversation from the taxi driver, behaving below the professional standard expected from drivers.
Help plant an unbe-'leaf'-able number of trees in East Devon this month
If you'd like to plant trees this month you're in luck. Join a tree planting event at either near Sidmouth, Exmouth or in Cranbrook.
Sidmouth Arboretum new community orchard

Sidmouth Arboretum, working with EDDC will be planting 20 young fruit trees on the edge of Sidford Sports Field.

New woodland with 13,000 trees near Exmouth
4, 5, 18, 19 February 10am-12pm, 1pm-3.30pm
The Woodland Trust is planting a new wood just north of Exmouth. They aim to plant 13,000 trees and want your help to do it.
Come for an hour or two or stay for the whole day. There is no parking on site, but you can take the minibus shuttles from Exmouth or come on foot or cycle. Booking is essential.

Plant a wood in the Clyst Valley Regional Park
11 February 10am-1pm, 1pm-4pm
Bring your kids along to the Clyst Valley Regional Park to meet a 4-metre high T-Rex called Rexy too.
Sidmouth sea steps closed while new and improved railings are fitted
Work will finish this week to install better designed, new railings along the steps down to the beach and sea by Jacobs Ladder Beach in Sidmouth. Replacing the frequently damaged existing railings will increase safety along this stretch of seaside.
Did you know you’ll need ID to vote in the May elections?
Don’t be ‘feline’ left out - ‘paws’ before you leave the house, don’t ‘furget’ you need your ID to vote
Town, parish and district council elections will take place across East Devon on 4 May 2023.
For the first time all voters will need to show a valid form of photo ID at the polling station, following a decision from national Government.
All 60 seats in the district and all 572 seats in the towns/parishes are up for election.
Any adult over the age of 18 years old can apply for a free voter ID card at http://citizencard.com with the code FREEVOTERID.
Or skip the queues on election day and apply for a postal vote: Apply to vote by post | Electoral Commission
The forms of ID you can use to vote are:
- UK passport
- A passport issued by an EEA (European Economic Area) state or a Commonwealth country
- EEA identity card
- Driving license (including provisional licence)
- A biometric immigration document
- Older person’s bus pass
- Disabled person’s bus pass
- A blue badge
- A PASS identity card
- Ministry of Defence Form 90 (Defence Identity Card)
If you have one of the above which is out of date, you can use this at the polling station if it still looks like you.
Remember in order to vote you must also be registered. Register to vote here: www.gov.uk/registertovote You will need your National Insurance number.
