Tributes paid to former East Devon District Council Leader Paul Diviani
Paul Diviani in 2014
East Devon District Council’s (EDDC) former leader Paul Diviani passed away last week prompting tributes, describing him as ‘a joy and an inspiration to work with’.
EDDC's Chair and Chief Executive have paid their respects following the sad news about Paul’s death on 5 January 2023.
Paul was an EDDC councillor for 20 years, from 1999 to 2019 and the leader of the council from 2011 to 2018, holding the position of EDDC's chair and portfolio holder for the economy, regeneration and strategic development during his tenure. In December 2019, he was made an Honorary Alderman.
1,699 Christmas trees chipped to help East Devon community projects
Christmas trees collected from drop-off zones and the chippings being dropped off at St Martin's Primary School
1,699 Christmas trees were collected from East Devon drop-off zones after the festive season by the authority’s recycling and waste team alongside StreetScene.
This year EDDC collected the following number of trees:
- Seaton: 245 trees
- Axminster: 70 trees
- Honiton: 140 trees
- Ottery: 205 trees
- Sidmouth: 235 trees
- Budleigh: 188 trees
- Exmouth: 311 trees
- Cranbrook: 200 trees
- Broadclyst: 105 trees
An example of a community project where chippings are being used for a variety of purposes is at the forest school at Cranbrook's St Martin’s Primary School. These will be used to maintain pathways, to protect tree roots and to retain moisture in the soil and suppress weed growth.
Heartfelt thanks from Rotary Club of Exmouth to EDDC workers for collecting town's Christmas tree
The Rotary Club of Exmouth's Magnolia Centre Christmas Tree being chipped
For the past 40 years, the Rotary Club of Exmouth has traditionally donated the Magnolia Centre Christmas Tree, for the enjoyment of the town and its residents.
After hearing of logistical issues the club was having to take down the tree, StreetScene officers stepped in to help – quickly organising the collection of the tree and for a mechanical sweeper to clean the area.
Branscombe homes refurbished and retrofitted, improving energy efficiency
Refurbished and retrofitted homes in Branscombe
At a time when the cost of living and soaring energy bills are creating challenges for so many people, any refurbishment work we can do to help improve the energy efficiency of homes makes a big difference.
These works can often be substantial, such as the projects Ian Williams has just completed on behalf of East Devon District Council residents in Branscombe. These include upgrades to roofs, roofline, windows and doors, cavity fills, external rendering and redecoration and the installation of air source heat pumps and solar panels.
Ian Williams would like to thank the retrofit teams who carried out this project and the residents for their patience while the improvements were undertaken. Not only do the properties looks great, but more importantly, energy bills will be reduced – a perfect example of working in partnership with clients and residents to create better quality of lives.
