Time is running out to have your say in East Devon's new draft Local Plan

A second new East Devon town, how many new homes should go where and whether more needs to be done to tackle climate change, when building new developments, are just some of the questions being asked in a consultation on the new East Devon draft Local Plan.

The deadline for the end of a ten-week consultation seeking residents' views on specific sites for development is fast approaching, with just a few weeks left until Sunday, January 15, 2023.

The document sets out how EDDC intends to meet housing targets, to meet the needs of local residents and ensure new homes are net zero carbon, ensuring they are more efficient and cheaper to run.

The draft plan also outlines how the district addresses the climate change emergency, how and where new jobs should be created, how town centres should be supported and how the district can protect build heritage and the natural environment.

More than 300 people have made the most out of the ten ‘warm hubs’ opened across East Devon, in response to the cost-of-living crisis.

East Devon District Council’s (EDDC) housing service has seen an overwhelmingly positive response to the project during its first two weeks.

The hubs can be found in Axminster, Broadclyst, Exmouth, Honiton, Ottery St Mary, Seaton, Sidmouth and Woodbury.

Cooking with an air fryer or slow cooker this Christmas?

It can be more energy efficient and is a great way to cook in bulk.

Not all food packaging has air fryer instructions, but the Government Food Standards Agency’s cooking advice still stands.

Don't forget to keep your food fresh by keeping:

• Your fridge below 5°C and allowing air to circulate by not overfilling it.
• Refrigerate food with a use-by date.
• Raw meat, fish and shellfish covered, ideally at the bottom away from ready-to-eat food.

Christmas leftovers? Let the food cool down and refrigerate or freeze within two hours. Leftovers should be eaten or frozen within 48 hours of cooking.
