Land purchased to create beautiful green space

Fields and trees on land bought by East Devon District Council. Pinhoe ridge line in the distance.

In a landmark for the creation of the Clyst Valley Regional Park, we have bought 25 acres just west of Station Road, Broadclyst. The image above shows some of the fields, with fine old oaks and hedges, and the beautiful long view to the ridge above Pinhoe. We hope to have some of the site open by spring next year, starting a summer programme of nature-based activities. If you want to get involved in co-designing this green space, sign up to our newsletter and we'll keep you informed.

The trees you planted are thriving

Oaks planted in 2019 now growing well in 2022

This picture was taken last week at Mosshayne Farm and shows that the oak trees planted by Broadclyst Primary School children in 2019 are thriving. All the different trees are doing well; holly, maple, cherry, walnut, thorn. It shows that the technique we used has worked well. We dug a hole for the saplings (rather than a slot), then the children backfilled with good soil and mulched around to prevent weed growth and moisture loss. The tubes are preventing bark stripping and browsing damage by roe deer and rabbits.

East Devon New Local Plan

A new draft plan is out for consultation until 15th Jan 2023. Strategy 16 in Section 5 provides for green infrastructure and an expansion of the Clyst Valley Regional Park. If you think that high quality public green/blue space, safe traffic-free trails, more nature, restoration of soil, water and heritage, landscape quality, and climate action are important, please tell us.
