Empty property review
If you have completed the Empty Property review in the last 7 days please ignore this email.
You currently pay Council Tax on an empty and unfurnished property within the East Devon area that has remained empty for more than 6 months. We are carrying out our annual review to check whether this is still the case and need you to reply to ensure your charge remains correct.
Already paying a full empty charge but have moved in or furnished the property?
You still need to let us know otherwise after 2 years of the property being recorded as empty, you risk incurring a premium charge as detailed in the table below.

You will need your Council Tax account number which starts 60 and will be at the top of your Council Tax bill.
If you are unable to complete the form online, please email us counciltax@eastdevon.gov.uk (please title the email empty property review) with details of what is happening with the property including any planned dates for occupation/ dates you will furnish the property (please include the address of your property / account number in this email).
Please remember that you have a legal responsibility to inform us within 21 days about any changes in circumstances.

Premium charges
The Government have introduced the following incremental increases that can be applied to reflect the length of time that properties have been empty for. This is to encourage more properties back into use because of the impact empty homes have on the community. By completing this review you will help us to ensure we only charge this premium to properties that remain empty for longer than 2 years.
