News and updates:
70 years for HRH The Queen - 70 Jubilee Oaks for communities across East Devon
"As Chair of our council, I wanted us to recognise the 70-year period of Her Majesty’s reign in an enduring way, working with each part of our District, from our smallest parish to largest town and supportive of a key Council priority.
Rather than ‘Civic Functions’, my modest budget has been used to establish a network of English Oak trees dedicated to Her Majesty’s Jubilee and set to grace East Devon for decades to come.
Each of these English Oaks, when mature, will be able to absorb up to 150Kg of CO2 in support of our Carbon reduction work.
Our fantastic StreetScene team can now draw breath, after planting an amazing 70 Jubilee Oaks in towns and parishes across the length and breadth of East Devon. Each is marked by a commemorative plaque.
The Jubilee Weekend is almost upon us. I hope that all local communites have a great time and that the oaks gifted by East Devon District Council help create glorious, uplifting memories of 2022.
I’d like to thank everyone who has helped make this network happen, Member and Officer colleagues, Parish and Town Councils and numerous other local community groups and members.
Have a great weekend!"
Cllr Ian Thomas, Chair East Devon District Council
