New monthly £10 a month virtual parking permits available to purchase
East Devon District Council will be launching a new monthly virtual parking permit on Monday 25 April for local residents and business owners in the district. From just £10 a month (which works at around 30p a day) you can buy a virtual parking permit to use in our council car parks.
Our new monthly permits is one of the cheapest available in the region. To find out more about the different parking permits we currently have available and the ways you can save money when parking in our car parks visit our website.
Parking Tariffs to change in our car parks from Monday 25 April 2022
On Monday 25 April we will be changing the parking tariffs in a number of our car parks across the district. Temporary notices with the new charges will be going up on Monday with replacement permanent boards installed over the next couple of weeks.
These changes (the first since 2010) have been made with careful consideration to the charges made in neighbouring council areas. A new daily maximum charge for parking during the summer has been applied in many towns and we will be continuing our £2.00 winter offer in all car parks from 1 November to 31 March.
If you are a local resident and a regular user of our car parks, purchase one of our new monthly virtual parking permits the easiest way to park and save money at the same time.
Council Tax (energy) rebate update
For those who qualify if you have paid your Council Tax by Direct Debit we are starting to issue the £150 payment direct to your bank account and will aim to do this within 15 working days of successfully receiving your April instalment. For those who paid their council tax on 1 April these payments have been issued this week.
We will be writing to residents who don't pay their council tax by direct debit during May with information on how you can claim your payment.

Be Water Aware 25th April - 1st May 2022
As the weather gets warmer, Fire and Rescue services across the UK are asking people to stay safe when spending time in and around water.
The call comes as part the National Fire Chiefs Council’s Be Water Aware campaign which runs from 25 April – 1 May.
The campaign is warning people of the risk of accidentally drowning when in and around water. Nearly 50 percent of people who accidentally drowned in 2020 had no intention of entering the water. Many others underestimate the risk of jumping into cold water. In both instances the effects of cold water, shock and not knowing how to self rescue can cause even the strongest swimmers to drown.
Even on a warm day the temperature in open water can remain very cold, causing a physical reaction which can make it difficult to control breathing, cause panic and make it difficult to swim.
If you do find yourself in difficulty in the water, don’t panic, fight your instinct to thrash around, lean back in the water and float on your back until the effects of cold water shock pass. Then you can call for help or swim to safety.
If someone is in trouble in water, call 999. At the coast ask for the coastguard. If you are inland, ask for the fire service. You should never enter the water to attempt a rescue.
International Noise Awareness Day - 27 April 2022
