Community Buildings Fund reopens for new applications
 East Devon District Council is making grants of up to £5,000 available for community buildings and community shops in rural areas of the district.
The council is urging rural community organisations who have a building used by multiple groups or community shops and are planning a capital project or refurbishments to apply for financial help from its successful Community Buildings Fund. The next closing date for applications is Monday 27 June 2022.
Village halls, community buildings and community shops in East Devon’s villages and rural areas are eligible (those within an area covered by a town council are not eligible).
Action on Poverty Fund opens for applications
Projects and activities that help reduce poverty in East Devon can now apply for a grant fund that has been opened by East Devon District Council (EDDC).
The new Action on Poverty Fund can accept applications of between £500 and £5,000 from properly constituted and not-for-private-profit organisations or groups such as: • Voluntary and community sector groups and organisations • Parish Councils • Charities • Other groups such as Community Interest Companies
Broadclyst litter pickers did a fantastic job of tidying up
 Volunteers at Broadclyst were joined by EDDC's StreetScene officers for a big tidy up as part of the THE GREAT BRITISH SPRING CLEAN.
One resident said: "A massive thanks to all that the StreetScene team do throughout the year for keeping our pavements and environment litter free.
"And of course a big thank you to Broadclyst parish council for the loan of the equipment."
Easter bluebell walks and trail planned in East Devon
Come down to Seaton Wetlands this Easter to take part in our Easter trail.
Grab your trail leaflet from the Discovery Hut for £3.
After you have completed your trail head back to the Discovery Hut to claim your prize.
The discovery hut is open between 10am until 4pm everyday until the 22 April.
Join Ranger Jon for a guided walk East Devon’s glorious woodlands as he goes in search of bluebells.
For spectacular views of bluebells and other woodland specialities join Jon at Holyford woods on the 27 April or Knapp Copse on the 3 May.

New Exmouth Phear Park tennis sessions begin
Starting from 25 April, LED are putting on an outdoor programme at Phear Park aimed towards non-members.

Lymebourne Park Community Day
East Devon District Council (EDDC) alongside Ian Williams are hosting a social value event, outside Lymebourne Community Centre on Tuesday, 26 April, between 10.30am and 3pm.
More than 100 residents, from Lymebourne, Arcott Park, Trumps Court and other surrounding EDDC homes have been invited to the day, which is the first big event held by EDDC’s housing team and Ian Williams since the ease of Government restrictions around COVID.
Help food banks near you in East Devon
Registered charity BanktheFood is on a mission to ensure food banks always have exactly what they need, when they need it. Generous people are giving, but not always the right food to provide a balanced diet for a family.
Their free app is easy to download and simple to use. To get started Download BanktheFood.
BanktheFood will send you a helpful ‘ping' when you are at your local supermarket with your local food bank's needs.
They are a new charity and are working hard to get all food banks across the country on the app. If your local food bank is not using BanktheFood yet, please tell them all about it.

 The BBC Radio Devon Make A Difference Awards aim to recognise communities, groups and individuals who genuinely make a difference in Devon.
They’re looking for nominations in the following categories –
Volunteer - Awarded to an individual who makes a real difference to the community by giving up their time voluntarily to help out a charity or good cause.
Community Group - Awarded to a group of people who have helped to genuinely change the lives of others within the community
Fundraiser - Awarded to an individual or group of people who have gone the extra mile to raise funds for a charity or good cause.
Carer - Awarded to someone who improves the life of an individual or group of people by caring for them on a regular basis.
Great Neighbour - Awarded to an individual or group of people who help to make the neighbourhood or local community a better place to live or work, either on a regular basis or through a single act of kindness.
Key Worker - Awarded to a key worker who’s gone above and beyond their call of duty to help others.
Environmental Award - Awarded to an individual or group of people who help to make where we live more environmentally friendly.
The Together Award - Awarded to an individual or group of people who create real change by breaking down barriers and bringing together people from different walks of life for a common cause.

Active Travel Day, Exmouth, Saturday, 30 April, 10am until 4pm
 On Saturday 30 April, local group Active Travel Exmouth who are working with Transition Exmouth, to run an awareness-raising day in the Strand from 10am until 4pm.
If you are a keen cyclist or want to get back in the saddle then pop along and meet some of our local bike shops and have a chat.
The Strand will be filled with stalls with cycle displays (with maybe even some to try!), both traditional pedal cycles and electric bikes.
There will also be local groups on hand to help with queries about safe cycling routes, walking for health, and bus and rail travel. If you want to have a free check on your bike, you can book it in with the on-hand cycle mechanic, who can advise on what needs fixing.
Come along to the Stand on Saturday 30 April and find out more about active travel.
