Thousands of pounds of grants available for East Devon businesses

East Devon business grants

Firms in East Devon are being urged to check their eligibility for grant funding before the money has to be returned to Government at the end of March.  Two 'Local Restrictions Support Grants' have funding available for qualifying businesses (a) forced to close as instructed by Government and (b) those which could remain open.

The Additional Restrictions Grant deadline of 11th March has been extended to allow more local firms to apply for the funding.

Grants covering 16.2.21–31.3.21

Local Restrictions Support Grants can now be claimed for January-March schemes. Please read the guidance and if your business meets the criteria, claim for 16.2.21 to 31.3.21. Grants of £2,096, £3,143 and £4,174 are available depending on rateable values.

Restart Grants

In the budget the Government announced £5 billion for new Restart Grants – a one off cash grant of up to £18,000 for hospitality, accommodation, leisure, personal care and gym businesses in England. Non-essential retail businesses will open first, so they will receive grants of up to £6,000 per premises. Hospitality and leisure businesses, including personal care and gyms, will open later, or be more impacted by restrictions when they do, so will be given grants of up to £18,000. Further information will be provided once the government guidance has been received for this scheme.

Get help with UK Transition from EU

  1. NEW £20million SME Brexit Support Fund offers up to £2,000 to help small businesses adjust to new custom procedures, rules of origin and VAT rules.
  2. Movement Assistance Scheme (MAS): get help with moving agrifood goods to Northern Ireland. Detail here.
  3. Check How to Export Goods tool: The Check How to Export Goods (CHEG) tool is aimed at UK exporters and pulls together information on the UK border, duties, rules of origin and customs procedures.
  4. Webinars for EU food and drinks importers: Register for webinars to find out about changes to importing food and drink, including composite food and fishery products from the EU to Great Britain (GB) from 1 April 2021.

Increased support for fishing and shellfish businesses

The Government announced financial support for the seafood industry with grants for seafood and aquaculture businesses across the UK.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs is expanding the eligibility criteria for the Seafood Response Fund to target catching and shellfish aquaculture businesses which have been affected by a reduction in demand from the hospitality sector in the UK and abroad, as well as disruption of exports to the EU. Eligible businesses are now being contacted by the MMO. Payments are due before the end of March.

In partnership with STOP THE TRAFFIK the Shiva Foundation have developed a toolkit for small and medium size enterprises to help them address risk of exploitation in their business.

The toolkit includes key features such as a simple risk self-assessment, practical steps to protect employees, templates to guide businesses, and clear guidance on how to report modern slavery concerns.
