Your views wanted on Exeter’s new Corporate Plan

Residents and stakeholders in the city are being invited to share their views on the final draft of Exeter’s new Corporate Plan 2025-2028.

The plan identifies the Council’s key strategic priorities for the future and sets out how they will be delivered, and how success will be measured.

The Corporate Plan has been developed in partnership with residents and stakeholders following extensive consultation to ensure the priorities match those of communities, businesses, and those who visit or work in Exeter.

Following feedback, the Corporate Plan prioritises delivery in four key areas - local economy, homes, people and sustainable environment.

Each priority will have a delivery plan outlining specific measures that will track progress against priorities and the intended outcomes.

Consultation on Exeter’s Northbrook Swimming Pool

At the budget-setting meeting on 28 February, the Council had to identify £3.5 million savings to set a balanced budget for the next financial year.

Part of the measures to achieve this included a reduction to the budget of the Leisure Service of £586,000. To achieve these savings, the Leisure service has had to review the centres it runs.

Northbrook Swimming Pool, despite extensive initiatives to increase usage, continues to be used by a low number of people.

Although a small community pool, its running costs are high because of the design and age of the building and pool itself. This means the income from the centre is substantially less than it costs to run it.

The decision to close Northbrook Swimming Pool will only be considered after hearing from the community it serves and after assessing the impact of the potential closure on its users.

By-elections in Exeter triggered after two councillors stand down

There will be by-elections in two Exeter City Council wards on 1 May after two City Councillors decided to stand down.

The by-elections will take place in the Mincinglake & Whipton ward, where Naima Allcock has stood down, and in Topsham, where Joshua Ellis-Jones has also stood down.

The by-elections will take place on the same day as elections for Devon County Council, which are being held throughout Exeter.

Apart from the two by-elections, there are no other City Council elections this year, because the local authority holds its elections in ‘thirds’, meaning there are no elections every fourth year.
