 Because of Rugby…
Striking images celebrate women’s rugby in Exeter
Striking images of local female rugby players, coaches and volunteers have started appearing around Exeter to mark Women’s History Month and the Women’s Rugby World Cup coming to the city in August.
Inspiring the next generation, the powerful black and white images showcase the history of rugby in Exeter.
‘Because of Rugby…’ is an initiative from Visit Exeter and Exeter City Council, and aims to inspire future generations, promote inclusivity in sport, and celebrate the contributions of women to Exeter's rugby story.
Large black and white images of some of Exeter’s players, coaches, staff and volunteers – past and present - are currently on display in key locations around the city. The images are also being shared on social media.
The images were provided by Saracens RFC, Topsham RFC, Exeter University, Exeter College, and Exeter Chiefs.
Women’s History Month runs throughout March and Saturday is International Women’s Day.

Running sensation Innes Fitzgerald set to go in European Championships
Exeter teenage running sensation Innes Fitzgerald takes on the best athletes in Europe at the weekend when she competes in the European Athletics Indoor Championships.
The Exeter Harrier, who trains on the City Council-run track at Exeter Arena, will be running in the heats of the Women’s 3,000m at 9.20am GMT on Saturday morning (8 March). The Championships are being televised by the BBC.
For 18-year-old Innes, the last couple of months have been little short of incredible.
In February, she smashed the European under-20 indoor 3,000m record by an incredible ten seconds and in the process took 16 seconds off Zola Budd’s British indoor under-20 record.
Innes, who is a student at the University of Exeter, followed that up with an impressive bronze medal at the UK Indoor Championships in Birmingham, front-running from the start and leading Tokyo Olympic silver medallist Laura Muir with just two laps to go.

There’s still time to register to vote in this year’s elections.
Anyone who wants to vote in the Devon County Council elections on Thursday 1 May, must ensure that they are on the electoral register.
There are no Exeter City Council elections this year because the City Council holds its elections in ‘thirds’, meaning there are no elections every fourth year.
For those who are not currently on the electoral register, there’s still plenty of time to register. The deadline for registrations is midnight on Friday 11 April.
