Leader column: budget aims to protect the services our residents rely on
I have to start with Exeter City’s brilliant FA Cup tie against Nottingham Forest. It was a great evening for the city. This was the first time Exeter had reached the fourth round since 1981 and a Premier League side - with all its money and resources – couldn’t beat a members’ club in regulation time.
Exeter performed terrifically well on the night, and it was a proud moment for everyone in the city. It was disappointing that we lost on penalties, but we took them all the way and there is a lot to be taken from it.
Last weekend we beat Cambridge away and hopefully this marks a turning point for the club, and we wish them every success for the remainder of the season.
Next week I will be presenting the budget to Council. We are required to set a balanced budget, and I am pleased to say I am now in a position to present just such a budget.

  Wonford Community and Wellbeing Hub
Planning permission granted for Wonford Community and Wellbeing Hub
An application to create a new community and wellbeing Hub in Wonford has been backed by members of the Council’s planning committee.
Plans for the new community hub were developed following a long period of engagement with the local community.
It is designed to transform the existing facilities into a light and inclusive space connected to the Ludwell Valley Park which supports people to be healthy, happy and active every day and to improve health and wellbeing in Wonford.
The hub aims to create an environment that encourages community and sports events while actively contributing to the overall wellbeing of residents.

With Spring just around the corner, people in Exeter might want to consider signing up for collections of garden waste.
After a long cold winter, the days are starting to get longer and gardens waking up again.
Whilst spring bulbs and new shoots emerge, many people will be tidying up their gardens and getting rid of dead wood and anything not needed.
Hiring a brown garden waste bin takes the hassle out of gardening. Fortnightly collections take place directly from the kerbside of properties.

Well known Exeter trees to be felled for safety concerns
Two mature trees in Exeter city centre are going to have to be felled because of safety concerns, the City Council has revealed. Replacements trees will be planted on site.
