 Exeter MPs Steve Race and David Reed
General Election results for Exeter
People in Exeter have elected two MPs for the city after casting their votes for the General Election on Thursday 4 July.
In the Exeter Constituency, Labour’s Steve Race triumphed, whilst in the neighbouring Exmouth and Exeter East Constituency, Conservative David Reed was elected as the new MP.
The full results of the Exeter Constituency were as follows:
- Steve Race – Labour Party – 18,225 votes
- Tessa Dorothy Tucker – Conservative Party – 6,288 votes
- Andrew Bell - Green Party – 5,907 votes
- Lee Bunker – Reform UK – 4,914 votes
- Will Aczel – Liberal Democrats – 4,201 votes
- William Oliver Poulter – Independent – 466 votes
- Robert Michael Spain – Independent – 194 votes
The turnout was 59.57%.
After making the declaration, (Acting) Returning Officer Bindu Arjoon said: “I want to thank all the staff, both those who are here tonight and those who aren’t here tonight, for their diligent work in delivering this election so effectively.”
The full results for the Exmouth and Exeter East Constituency were as follows:
- David G Reed – Conservative Party – 14,728 votes
- Helen B Dallimore – Labour Party – 14,607 votes
- Paul Arnott – Liberal Democrats – 11,387 votes
- Garry G Sutherland – Reform UK – 7,095 votes
- Olly Davey – Green Party – 2,331 votes
- Daniel Wilson – Independent – 590 votes
- Pater H Faithfull – Independent – 454 votes
- Mark P Baldwin – Climate Party – 134 votes
The turnout was 64.3%.

New report celebrates Exeter’s UNESCO City of Literature status
A new report has highlighted the benefits of Exeter being designated as a UNESCO City of Literature.
Exeter was awarded the prestigious designation in 2019 and the Exeter City of Literature charity was established at the end of 2021 to mobilise the city around the value of literature and storytelling.
Having the UNESCO designation has brought funding, job creation, talent development and an increase in cultural programming to the city.
In the first four years of having the designation, Exeter City of Literature has raised over £870,000 from public and private grants. READ MORE....

 Lammas Fair
Lammas ceremony goes online due to unfortunate clash of events
Exeter’s big white glove will not be hoisted above the city this year due to the Lammas Fair clashing with the General Election.
Instead, the age-old ceremony is being held virtually, with the recording of the proclamation being made available for people to see online.
Lord Mayor, Cllr Kevin Mitchell, said: “Due to this event (the General Election), we have taken the very hard decision to cancel this year’s ceremony. However the craft fair will still continue on the Cathedral Green and I will have the great pleasure of opening the craft fair on that day.”
The wonderfully quirky tradition of parading a big white glove through city centre streets always takes place on the same Thursday in early July ahead of the Exeter Craft Festival on the Cathedral Green. READ MORE...

Starting on Monday 1 July, Princesshay is bringing Wimbledon, Tour de France and the Paris 2024 Olympics to Exeter with live action on a giant screen.
Princesshay Square is once again being transformed into Princesshay Green for six weeks of top sporting action.
So, whether people are die-hard tennis fans, have a passion for pedal power or keen to see some record-breaking action, they’ll be able to see it all unfold on the big screen free of charge on picnic benches and deckchairs within Princesshay Green in the main square.
