A new business directory has been launched in East Sussex.  It's Local helps residents find and connect to local businesses easily and allows local businesses to register and promote their services free of charge. Search for local companies, shop locally and support the East Sussex economy.

Capital Funding for Businesses and Social Enterprises

Small and Medium sized businesses including Social Enterprises who earn at least half most of their income through trading can apply for two local funds.

The South East Business Boost, an EU European Regional Development Fund programme can fund up to 30% of a capital project from new equipment and machinery to new technology and processes if it helps grow the enterprise. Maximum grants are for between £1,000 and £10,000 and require 70% match funding from the recipient organisation.

Applications to South East Business Boost can be made anytime, up until June 2019.

East Sussex Invest 5 is also available if you require more funding for capital items that will result in job growth within the next 12 months.

  • Grants from £15,000 to £40,000 - require minimum match funding of 60%
  • Loans from £10,000 to £200,000 - require minimum match funding of 50%
  • There is an additional grant of £1,500 for a new accredited apprentice position.

There is a total of £900,000 available for loans and £300,000 for grants per financial year until 2020.

FSB Celebrating Small Business Awards

Entries are now open for the FSB Celebrating Small Business Awards 2018.

With 12 categories to enter, there is a category to suit every type of small business.

The South East awards final will be held at Sandown Park Racecourse, Surrey on Tuesday 6 March 2018.

By entering the awards for the South East area you also have the chance to go forward to the national final and you can enter as many categories as you wish.

Free Business Start-up workshops in Eastbourne

Starting your own business can be very daunting and can feel quite lonely - it doesn't have to be.

Come along to one of Edeal's Start-up workshops and meet like minded people who want to make their dream of starting their own business a reality.

These workshops are free to Eastbourne residents or people starting a business in Eastbourne. They are fully funded by Eastbourne Borough Council.

Each workshop focuses on specific business start up topics giving you the skills you need to start on your business journey

The one day workshop will cover:

  • Business reality check  - will your idea work as a business?
  • Business planning - why?
  • How much do you know about your business idea?
  • Legal status for your business
  • Keeping on the right side of the law
  • Pricing concerns/breaking even
  • Introduction to profit & loss forecasting and cash flow forecasting
  • Customer focused marketing.

The workshops will be held at BPE Business Connections in Greencoat House, 32 St Leonards Road, Eastbourne, BN21 3UT 10am to 4pm on:
