Making sure your passengers know they need to wear their seat belts

The law states that seat belts must be worn where buses and coaches have them fitted as standard. This applies regardless of what type of road the vehicle is travelling on.

This is to prevent serious injury or death from occurring in the event of an accident.

You can do this by:

  • getting the driver to announce this must be done when passengers get on the vehicle
  • playing an audio or visual presentation
  • putting up signs at each seat
  • a combination of these

It is your responsibility to make sure your passengers wear them.
