 Our Plan for Birmingham
We’re planning some big changes at Kingstanding Driving Test Centre.
Starting this summer, we will transform the test centre so that we can provide a better, more flexible local service to candidates in the future.
When our work is completed, the new test centre will also become home to all the driving examiners currently based at Kingstanding as well as nearby driving test centre in Sutton Coldfield, and the temporary test centre at Wyndley.
Benefits to local candidates and instructors
As a result of our plans to change the site, we will be:
- improving facilities – ensuring they are fit for purpose and more environmentally friendly
- offering a better variety of test start times
- more flexible and adaptable approach to testing
- able to increase the number of local tests more easily when we need to
First steps: temporary closure and test relocation
Our first step is to temporarily close the current Kingstanding driving test centre, ahead of the demolition of the existing building this summer.
After this, we will begin to build the new test centre. This will take some time, but we will keep you updated of our progress and plans for reopening in 2023.
What this means for you and your pupils
The last day of testing at Kingstanding will be Sunday 14 August 2022.
We will be moving affected tests to other nearby centres. Both these centres are less than 3 miles from Kingstanding:
Birmingham Wyndley DTC, Wyndley Leisure Centre, 51 – 57 Clifton Road, Sutton Coldfield, B73 6EN.

Affected candidates will be notified of changes soon – please make sure your pupils check their emails as their Kingstanding test location will be moved. If you have booked a test for your pupil, please inform them of any updates you receive.
The future of testing in north Birmingham
When the new Kingstanding test centre opens, tests due to be conducted at Wyndley and our Sutton Coldfield driving test centre on Boldmere Road will be moved to the new site.
A date for this is not confirmed yet but we will update you and affected candidates as soon as we can.
If you or your pupil has a test booked in Sutton Coldfield or Wyndley, please continue to attend as planned.
