New national car driving examiner recruitment campaign

New national car driving examiner recruitment campaign

Emil Butler driving examiner

We are launching a new national campaign to recruit an extra 161 car driving examiners across Great Britain to help meet the increasing demand for driving tests.

The need for more examiners

As you are aware, we are experiencing a very high demand for car driving tests due to the pandemic, which has led to longer waiting times for candidates.

This new recruitment campaign is in addition to our previous campaign to recruit more than 300 additional examiners.

We have the following new roles which we are looking to fill:

  • 72 in London and south-east England
  • 18 in east England
  • 17 in north-west England
  • 15 in the Midlands
  • 13 in south and south-west England
  • 12 in Yorkshire and north-east England
  • 12 in Scotland
  • 2 in Wales

Attracting a broader range of recruits

We are keen to attract driving examiners from a wide range of backgrounds to make sure we are representing the society which we serve.

Emily Butler is our youngest driving examiner and started her role in Hartlepool last year aged 23. Hear about her experience of the role and training

These new roles can offer part-time flexible working hours, including evening and weekend working opportunities.

New entrants are coming in on flexible working patterns where they work 5 in 7 days.
