M1 (passenger car) IVA inspection manual update - headlamps

From 1 April 2022, we will be applying an updated version of the M1 (passenger car) IVA inspection manual. The changes are being made to section 25 (Headlamps) along with updates to some other sections.

What are the changes?

The changes clarify the requirements for headlamp cleaning and self-levelling devices as part of the installation standards for dipped beam headlamps.

Other small changes are also being made and are explained in the ’release notes’ at the beginning of the manual and in the ‘Record of revision’ page for each section.

The update will also clarify the standards for the components needed.

What does this mean for me and my business?

We’re giving you advance notice so you can assess what may be required for vehicles you intend to submit for IVA. In some cases this may require additional evidence relating to components and/or installation such as a test report or certificate of conformity.

If you are unsure of the evidence needed, you should seek advice from the manufacturer of the vehicle or component in question. You should also be aware that you could be charged by them for obtaining the necessary evidence.

We’re contacting you now to make you aware and give you time to prepare for when your vehicles are submitted for IVA from 1 April 2022.

We’ve published the new IVA inspection manual (M1), including Section 25 (Headlamps) and the other changes, on GOV.UK for you to read now, so you can familiarise yourself with it before 1 April 2022.
