MOT training and assessment: have your testers done theirs?

This year’s MOT training and assessment needs to be completed by Thursday 31 March 2022.

There’s currently just over 2 months left for your testers to complete this year's MOT annual training and assessment.

To avoid your testers being suspended from testing, you're responsible for making sure they've done the training and assessment by Thursday 31 March 2022.

They can study by themselves or as a group with other testers, more formally with a training provider or by distance learning online. Their score is recorded automatically when they’ve passed and is sent to us via the MOT Testing Service (MTS).

Testers should do the assessment in plenty of time before the deadline and not leave it until the last minute.

Check they've done it

  1. From your MTS home screen, select the vehicle testing station.
  2. Click the tester's name.
  3. Click 'Annual assessment certificates' - you'll find this on the right-hand side under the heading 'MOT training and certificates'.

Improving our service to you

In our last message to testers and garage managers on 23 December, we mentioned we’re improving the MOT testing service.

The first of these improvements is now available and shows whether testers have passed or failed their MOT training and assessment as well as the score they achieved.  We have included this change following feedback from testers that they don’t always know what the pass mark was for that year. Previous results will now be shown as follows:

The pass mark currently stands at 80%.

Keeping you informed

We’ll keep on sending you regular reminders over the next few months about various aspects of the training and assessment process.
