We have two updates to share with heavy vehicle testing customers:
- clarifying our policy on when part paid heavy vehicle retests apply
- adding DVLA trailer registration numbers to MOT certificates
These are cheaper and quicker than full retests.
They are only applicable for certain deficiencies and the retest must take place on the same or next working day.
On some occasions the next working day has been applied incorrectly. This makes a difference, because the fees for a part paid retest are lower than for a full retest.
The list of test fees is available on GOV.UK.
What are we clarifying?
Part paid retests can take place at the same ATF or a different site on:
- The day the original test takes place
- The day after the original test took place
- The Saturday, Sunday or Monday immediately following a failed original test on a Friday
Part paid retests will not be applied in any other circumstances.
Retests will be applied if the above criteria is not met and the vehicle is presented within 14 days of the original test.
Why are we clarifying the policy?
We want to make sure there is no confusion about where part paid retests apply.
We will be giving our testing staff additional training and updating the testing app to guide them to the correct test type.
The clarification will ensure there is:
- accurate test data
- less back office work for ATFs in correcting test types and fees
- correct charging of operators
Trailer MOT test certificates will now show the trailer registration number on the certificate, where one is available.
We’re adding this information to MOT certificates using data from DVLA.
Our testing records will match trailer registration information to the MOT test and print the trailer registration number on the certificate.
You can view a sample trailer MOT test certificate on GOV.UK.
