MOT testing in Scotland

MOT testing in Scotland

On 4 January, the Scottish Government announced mainland Scotland would move from Level 4 to a temporary lockdown from 00:01 on 5 January, with new guidance to stay at home except for essential reasons.

These restrictions in mainland Scotland will remain in place until at least 31 January.

You can read more about the measures on the Scottish Government’s website

What this means for MOT garages

MOT garages can remain open under the temporary lockdown.

To help ensure MOT testing can be conducted safely, you can read our guidance for MOT testers about operating safely during coronavirus.

In Scotland, you are legally obliged to wear a face covering in communal areas indoors, unless exempt.

A vehicle needs to have a valid MOT if it is being used, except for the journey to a pre-booked MOT.

Thank you

Thank you for continuing to follow COVID-19 secure testing procedures. This helps to ensure the safety of the public, your staff and DVSA staff.

We will continue to keep the situation under review in line with Scottish Government advice and provide a further update if there is a change that affects our services.
