Requesting a 'key' for connected equipment

From the end of October 2020, we are making it easier to connect equipment to the MOT testing service (MTS).

You will apply for a ‘key’ to connect equipment via the MTS, rather than by emailing us.

You need a key to:

  • connect existing equipment
  • add new connected equipment

What you need to do

Log into MTS and go to the Vehicle Testing Station page. Click on ‘Request a key’ under ‘Change and connect equipment’ on the right-hand side of the page.

Follow the instructions to create a key. The key is generated instantly and will be emailed to you on request.

Make sure your MTS profile email address is up to date because this is where we will send the key. The password to open the key is your user ID.

You should request the key when the installation engineer is on site, you do not need to do this beforehand.

The key will not work at another testing station and only works on one piece of equipment.

What equipment do you need a key for?

Currently you need a key to add:

  • roller brake testers
  • decelerometers

As more connected equipment becomes available, we will add these to the list.
