If you’re creating a new vehicle record in the MOT testing service, you need to enter the full VIN (vehicle identification number) and VRM (vehicle registration mark).
Currently, around 90 records a week created in the MOT testing service (MTS) have an incomplete VIN.
This is a particular issue with imported vehicles that have never been tested.
Entering an incomplete VIN can lead to multiple records for the same vehicle being recorded on MTS. Vehicle owners then may not be able to see all their vehicle's records when using DVSA's check MOT service.
In the cases where you have to create a new record to carry out a test, you need to include the full VIN number and VRM.
