The Stationery Office Ltd (TSO) has won the contract to continue being DVSA’s official publisher.
The partnership will publish and improve on DVSA’s learning materials – including a range of guides, apps, e-learning and web resources, and The Official Highway Code.
Alongside TSO, DVSA will work with the Think! Campaign and the Department for Transport on protecting vulnerable road users. We will also review The Highway Code and respond to increasingly autonomous and connected vehicles.
This includes:
- refreshing official learning materials for all road users and instructors to give greater prominence to situations like junctions, roundabouts, safe passing and exiting the car
- improving the Hazard Perception Test to include clips of vulnerable road users like children, cyclists, and motorcyclists
- developing visual media in driver training and instruction resources to stress the relevance of driving ‘theory’ to real driving situations, with particular emphasis on more vulnerable road users
- reviewing the Safe Driving for Life and DVSA Learning Zone websites, and the official apps and resources based on user research
The new contract is part of the Department for Transport’s Cycling & Walking Investment Strategy (CWIS) aimed at making cycling and walking a natural choice for shorter journeys, or as part of longer journeys by 2040.
