During the test, you’re tested on being able to:
- load the vehicle following safety rules and to keep it secure
- stop trafficking in illegal immigrants
- assess emergency situations
- do a walkaround vehicle safety check
The test is made up of 5 topics from the Driver CPC syllabus. You can score up to 20 points for each topic.
From Thursday 1 December 2016, the questions we ask will be changing. This is because we want to:
- keep up to date with modern technology such as digital tachographs
- make them easier to understand
They’re still based on the source material already in DVSA’s official learning materials about Driver CPC.
Giving customers more choice
From early December 2016 until early 2017, we’ll be running a pilot to find how practical it would be for external assessors to carry out the Driver CPC part 4 test.
DVSA will continue to offer the test. However, opening up delivery to other providers would give customers more choice of where they take this test.
This will also help to maintain the current national LGV driving test waiting time.
We’ll keep you updated about the outcome.
