Dudley SEND Trial AV1 Robots to Keep Pupils Connected to Learning
We’re excited to share that Dudley SEND, in partnership with Crestwood SEND Base, has begun trialling AV1 telepresence robots – a new and innovative way to help children and young people stay connected to their education when they can’t physically attend school.
The AV1 robot is a small, friendly-looking device that sits in the classroom on behalf of a child who is unwell, experiencing anxiety, or facing other challenges that prevent them from attending school in person. Controlled securely from home, the robot allows the child to see, hear and speak in real time, so they can join lessons, interact with classmates, and feel part of school life.
This pilot forms part of our wider work to improve inclusion and engagement for children and young people with SEND in Dudley. The team at Crestwood SEND Base have played a key role in supporting the trial, helping us to understand how this kind of technology can support both learning and wellbeing.
Feedback so far has been really positive – families and schools have told us how the AV1 is helping children feel more included and more confident.
Watch this space as we explore how AV1s could benefit more young people across Dudley!
