Safer Sleep Week took place 11 – 17 March. Charity The Lullaby Trust shared information on how to create the safest sleep space for your little one.
According to the charity, two-thirds of parents unknowingly place their baby somewhere unsuitable for sleep.
The advice is that your baby should only sleep in a product that is firm AND flat as this keeps their airway clear and open
When babies are in a seated position, their chin can end up slumping onto their chest. This folds the delicate airway and makes it difficult to breathe. Products that keep babies inclined or seated (e.g. bouncer, swing, beanbag, etc) can increase the chance of this happening.-
If a baby falls asleep in one of these items, they should be taken out and placed on a firm, flat, clear surface such as a cot or moses basket. This will help keep the airway open and reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

Childhood infections like measles and whooping cough are rising, with outbreaks across the country.
Such infections can have a huge impact on your child’s life. They can miss out on school due to time spent unwell, be hospitalised, and even experience life-long complications and disability.
If your child isn’t vaccinated, they’re not protected.
It is important for parents to take up the offer of the NHS’ free childhood immunisation programme as soon as they are offered to ensure your child has the best protection.
However, if you or your child have missed a vaccine, it is never too late to check if you can catch up.
The NHS is calling on all parents to check their child’s Red Book to see if the children have missed any vaccines or check with their GP if they are unsure.
Visit the NHS website for the full immunisation timetable and information on how to book.
