Dog, Duck and Cat
Dudley Council has funded all local primary schools to have free access to The Dog, Duck & Cat Trust resources. The resources aim to help children learn about staying safe, in a way that is fun and age appropriate, in their day to day lives, at school and in their local community. The resources will help teachers educate on subjects that affect a child’s physical health and emotional wellbeing in an engaging and structured way, helping schools to deliver effective RSHE.

NEW Vaping Teaching Resources
To support teachers’ concern about the rise of vaping in schools, Better Health has created three short, flexible and evidence-based vaping resources. |
|
|
These free bitesize activities help young people understand the health and wellbeing risks associated with vaping such as increased anxiety, nicotine addiction and effects on brain development. They contain interactive activities and engaging videos, perfect for lesson starters or a full lesson. Each resource is linked to the PSHE curriculum and RSHE curriculum, which is currently under review to include vaping. Start the conversation with students by signing up to the Better Health School Zone and downloading the free resources and a helpful Teacher Guide.
Dudley Public Health will soon be releasing a guide to youth vaping to help schools respond to growing concerns about the number of young people vaping. This guide will also include a set of frequently asked questions for parents and carers. For further information regarding this resource, please email cypteam@dudley.gov.uk

On Thursday 29 June schools from around the Black Country went to the University of Wolverhampton to battle for the School Games Trophy. Qualifying events had been held throughout the year through the School Games Organiser network in sports such as Cricket, Handball, Dodgeball, 3x3 Basketball and many others. Over 2000 students were there on the day to battle it out for the pride of the Black Country. All students were fantastic, and the effort put in was rewarded as Dudley were crowned CHAMPIONS!!!! This is the second time in three years that Dudley has won the trophy and through the SGO's Luke and Sam, they will be working hard next year to hopefully retain the crown in 2024.
If you would like anymore information regarding School Games please contact Luke Philpotts: luke.philpotts@activeblackcountry.co.uk

Each year Active Black Country coordinates a regional swim survey for schools, designed to capture attainment in primary school swimming provision across the Black Country. The survey supports legacy work linked to the Commonwealth Games as well as regional and national campaigns including Speedo’s Swim United campaign. The data is utilised to identify schools and pupils for supplementary programmes of support (including the Black Country Pop Up Pool Programme and Swim England's Breakfast Swim Clubs). In addition, the data will be used for the annual Black Country primary school swimming report and will include non-school specific findings. We recognise that whilst the survey focusses on year 6 data, a large majority of schools across the region ensure swimming provision takes place within earlier year groups.
The survey should take approximately 5-10 minutes to complete. All schools completing the survey will be entered into a prize draw to win £150 of sports equipment vouchers. Please note the deadline for completing the survey is Monday 25th September

Guidance for education settings with a young parent on roll
Dudley Council is producing guidance to support education settings if they have a young parent on their roll.
This document will provide national guidance and details of the local offer of support. In addition, it will outline the responsibilities and necessary actions that both education settings and the Local Authority can take, to assist young mothers and fathers, where at all possible, to continue at their education setting throughout their journey of pregnancy, and beyond into parenthood.
The document will also provide guidance for education settings in providing early, coordinated and sustained support, so young parents feel safe and supported, but also empowered and informed, to make the best choices possible for their baby and for themselves during this time.
Dudley Council would welcome the support of education staff with the creation of this guidance. If you would like to be involved in this piece of work, please contact cypteam@dudley.gov.uk

This resource contains guidance on how to deliver the Healthy Steps content for primary schools, including extra ideas and resources to consolidate and extend learning. The assembly resource has been developed with teachers, and encourages pupils to explore simple steps they can take towards a healthier diet. It includes aiming for at least 5 servings of fruit and vegetables a day, ways to plan ahead for a healthy diet and how to make healthier snacking choices. Additionally there are 3 quests for children to complete at home or in school. Alternatively a whole class, year group or the whole school could pick one quest each fortnight and work together to complete the activities. |

Corporate Landlord Services would like to make all their school meal customers aware of the support available to help find alternative catering arrangements by April 2024.
It is acknowledged that sourcing an alternative provider / arrangement for your school could be difficult to navigate so they have added dedicated resource pages available, via the Revolution portal. The catering team is on hand to support schools to ensure that they are selecting the best option for their setting and will be making direct contact with schools to ensure a smooth transition.
If you have made a decision for your catering service, please notify the team as soon as possible via CLS.AdminSupport@dudley.gov.uk
Violence Reduction Partnership (VRP) Student Workshops
The VRP provides student workshops on a range of topics, delivered by their team of expert facilitators. One of the most popular workshops uses virtual reality (VR) headsets to discuss choices and challenge behaviours surrounding gangs, knives, peer pressure, the role of social media, violence, and grooming. These VR workshops include 18 weeks of lesson plans and are designed to fit into the PSHE curriculum.
There is also a unique opportunity for schools to be part of an evaluation of the Violence Reduction Knives programme which will be published as research. This is a fantastic opportunity for a higher level of delivery in your school and will support the Serious Violence Duty. Please note spaces for this are very limited.
The VRP also offers a 25-minute film which draws upon the real life experiences of a young person groomed into county lines. This brings home the reality of county lines and aims to dispel a lot of the myths perpetuated on social media.
All of the VRP’s offer is fully funded and available for the next academic year. All workshops are adapted for each specific school, and are suitable for year six and above.
