Free Mental Health & Benefits Training  Black Country Healthcare NHS & Wolverhampton Welfare Rights 

The Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust working in partnership with City of Wolverhampton Council’s Welfare Rights Service are providing practical help and support to people to ensure that they are receiving all the Social Security benefits to which they are entitled.

To be eligible for help the person must be living in Dudley / have a Dudley area GP and be considered to have severe mental ill-health (SMI).

As part of the work that is being undertaken to support this group and to promote the overall work of the project, FREE places are available to people who work or volunteer for a local group or organisation.  These sessions will be delivered online over MS Teams.

Free Furniture Upcycling Course Provision House 

Provision House provide a free 12-week furniture upcycling course.

Provision House provide a free furniture upcycling course. The course lasts for 12 weeks and usually runs on a Thursday or a Friday. The course is for adults who are unemployed or not in education or training.

You will learn proper use of tools and techniques to produce items that are sellable. Provision House provide all the furniture items, paints and other resources for free.

The next sessions start Thursday 14 or Friday 15 September, 2023.

This course is part of Provision House's drive to prevent items going into land-fill.

YMCA Wren's Nest Navigators | Jobs Club 

YMCA Wrens Nest Navigators have partnered with the Coseley's Family Hub and the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP)  to offer a jobs club to support adults with their search for work and education. 

The fortnightly sessions will be a place where people can discuss their struggles with job searching, the staff will then work with the person to find a way past any barriers. 

Staff will also offer support with job searches, applications, completing forms, and looking for courses. 

There will be hot drinks and toast provided to anyone that attends.

The job club starts from Thursday 21st September at Coseley Family Hub, Bayer Street, WV14 9DS and will take place every other Thursday.

Epic Eats | Cook With Us 

Cook With Us would like to introduce you to Epic Eats ! 

This is a 6 week cooking course teaching participants how to cook budget friendly recipes while still having flavourful and tasty meals.

The weekly sessions start from Thursday 28th September from 5-7pm at Priory Park Community School, Meadow Road, Dudley, DY1 3JY.

Charlotte from "Cook With Us" would like to work in partnership with local organisations who work with local residents that may benefit from attending the cooking course for any number of reasons.

The sessions are open to all and some may wish to attend to learn new skills and techniques, whilst others may like to attend a session to improve their mental health by meeting new people.

Whilst there is a small fee attached to the sessions which helps towards the running costs, Charlotte is able to offer several places for free to people in need, who would like to attend but the fee would be a barrier. 

Sessions cost £1.50 per person (under 12's are free) which means participants can choose to attend the whole course or pick from the sessions offered. 

Families are welcome to cook together as well as individuals at the session.

Free refreshments are provided to attendees.

The Ageing Well Festival 2023 will be occurring during the weeks surrounding International Older People’s Day (1st October 2023)

Fun and helpful events are taking place across Dudley borough aimed at celebrating later life and helping you age well. We all grow older, but there are things you can do now to have a healthier and happier later life. Come along and discover what changes you can make.

There are many activities to attend, all listed in the brochure below. Some are
interactive and others give you information - each one is valuable.

A big thank you to the local community groups and organisations which are running the events. Choose from crafts to cycling, wellness to walking, or digital skills to drumming. There is something for everyone.

We hope that you enjoy it and that it gives you tips to lead your best older life.

Care leavers NHS Prepayment Prescription 

In the Black Country, care leavers who are not entitled to free prescriptions, can apply for a prepayment certificate so they do not have to pay for prescribed medication.

• Black Country ICB NHS - Care leaver prescription prepayment certificate

Care leavers who are eligible for the prepayment certificate must be:

• Registered with a GP
• A care leaver and eligible to receive a leaving care service from either Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall or Wolverhampton Children's Services
• Under 25 years old
• Not already exempt from prescription charges
